Who better to flaunt our styles than the women who really wear them?

Tell us a little about yourself.
I am a 28 year old living in wonderful Richmond, Virginia. My husband is in the Army currently stationed at nearby Fort Lee and we have a daughter Sawyer Penelope (17 months) and a Bernese Mountain Dog named Hemingway (4 years). I manage a tanning salon called Palm Beach Tan and make jewelry with my friend as a fun little hobby/business venture. I’m originally from Memphis, Tennessee and attended the University of Tennessee Knoxville where I obtained a Bachelors in Political Science with a minor in English (hence all the literary names in my family). Fashion and decorating have always been passions of mine ever since I learned how to match my socks and dress up Barbie! I’m slowly turning my daughter into a mini fashion maven already.
Tell us about your Gwynnie Bee photo shoot. What was your experience like?
It was fabulous and so much fun. It felt amazing taking a day to get all dolled up and have someone other than my husband take photos of my GB outfits somewhere other than my front porch! The day of the shoot started out rainy but the sunshine came out just in time for me to shine at the Canal Walk in downtown Richmond. My photographer Melanie and makeup artist Danielle were so easy to work with and made this mom feel like a star. It was just what I needed!
How would you describe your sense of style?
I have a myriad of tastes when it comes to fashion so it’s hard to put my finger on just one style to describe myself. I love mixing patterns and textures while still letting each piece speak for itself. My mood can vary from the ultra feminine and timeless pieces I tend to wear more in the spring and fall to the edgy and trendy looks I will put together for summer and winter. I’m never afraid of a little color or to show some leg! My body is the canvas I use to express myself and my clothing is the paint and paintbrush I use to do so!
Which GB brand is your favorite?
It’s so hard to pick just one! It will have to come down to a tie between BB Dakota and Carmakoma. I love how on-trend both of these awesome brands are and their adventurous use of patterns and fabrics. Carmakoma’s Euro vibe and mix of fabrics and cuts flatters my figure and brings both a level of professionalism and sex appeal to my wardrobe. BB Dakota provides so many versatile pieces, especially their dresses which have made their way into my closet as some of my favorite staple pieces. Oh, and did I mention how much I love Mynt 1792? They think out of the box and are so fashion forward while still flattering the plus size figure. Like I said, it’s just way to hard to pick only one favorite!
What is your 2015 fashion resolution?
One of my 2015 style resolutions is to try to post more photos of my outfits of the day. At work I wear a uniform so I tend to be pretty adventurous with style in my free time and I need to be better about documenting it like I used to with my GB sisters! Another resolution is to try to closet more brands and styles I haven’t tried previously. I tend to gravitate towards certain styles lately and I need to try a bit more of everything, that’s the beauty of Gwynnie Bee! I feel like Cher in “Clueless” with that never-ending revolving closet full of options—I need to share more with the world!
Any words of wisdom for the GB community?
Don’t be afraid of your curves. Show them off as often as you can and express yourself. Forget the old adages of “black is slimming” and “dress for your figure” and wear what you feel best in. Don’t hide yourself and your confidence behind clothes that don’t suit you and take chances! I can’t tell you how much better I felt once I started living and dressing myself with confidence. Step outside the box as a plus size woman and do, and wear what feels best. You’ll thank me later for it!
Anything else you would like to share?
Document your looks and share them on social media like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, etc.! There are so many fashionistas out there, including myself, who love to brainstorm styling ideas for Gwynnie Bee looks. That’s the beauty of this service. It’s our own style community or as my husband so eloquently put it, “the sisterhood of the traveling dresses!”
