Find What Fits: Browse Our Styles for Taller and Shorter Heights

When considering adding a new piece to the Gwynnie Bee collection, we often ask a group of our employees who are also Gwynnie Bee members to try on samples so we can see how they fit on different body types. One of the tests we like to employ is what we call the “Taxi Test.” Can you hail a cab without risking indecent exposure?

Naturally, the failure rate is higher for our taller girls, who have learned the hard way to interpret a product description touting a dress’s “fun and flirty” length as dangerously bum-skimming. Our shorties, on the other hand, aren’t as concerned with revealing their lady bits when hailing a taxi as they are tripping over the trailing hem of their maxi dress.

It can be hard to tell how a piece will fit just from looking at the product shot — which is why we’ve added a Tall Styles Collection and Short Styles Collection to our Shape Reports. Preview some of the styles for each collection below!

Tall Styles
These styles are especially great on ladies 5’9″ and up

SWAK Emma Maxi Dress in Jade Print, sizes 1X-5XNIC+ ZOE Carnaval Cardi, sizes M-3X, ASOS Curve Midi Skirt with Pleats,
 sizes 14-24

It’s no secret that maxi dresses are a great go-to for tall frames and you’ll find plenty in our collection. Midis are also a great option. At the risk of sounding a tad Medieval, a flash of ankle can strike the perfect balance between sexy and chic. This midi will fall at just the right length on a taller frame. A longline cardigan is another excellent style for a tall frame. Its length won’t overwhelm and is perfect for a longer torso.

Short Styles
Great options for ladies under 5’4″
BB Dakota Solomon Dress, sizes 14-24, Lucky Brand Floral Geo Mix Print Top, sizes1X-3X,  Tbags Los Angeles V-Neck Bell Sleeve Dress, sizes L-3X

Itty bitty mini dress? Not a problem for shorter girls! The collection boasts tons of short dresses that you can pull off without being scandalous. The paneling and contrast detail on this BB Dakota dress creates the illusion of a lengthened torso, making it a great look for girls who have shorter middles. And while this top might look boxy or ride up on someone with a longer torso, it will hit just at the hips on a shorter girl, making it a great fit option.

Aww man, you got my hopes up! You mentioned the problem of finding a maxi dress that will work on us shorties, but none are in the Short Styles collection. Ha!

I wish that you would list either the length of dresses or the height of the model as a reference. Being 5’11 a lot of dresses end up being too short for work on me when they look fine on the model. It would be so helpful to have as a reference.
