Thanks to the modern miracle that is central heating, we can sit (relatively) comfortably in our offices, no matter the weather outside. However, that poses its own challenges when it comes to what to wear: it’s cold outside on the commute, but nice and toasty in the office. We’ve got 5 style hacks to make sure you’re comfortable and cozy on your way in and out, without sweltering at your desk.
1. Classic Layering
The easiest trick is have some removable layers that work for both in and outdoors. For your toasty office, try a sleeveless dress on its own that allows you to breathe, and layer on a cozy sweater – great for under your winter coat, or for that conference room that is chillier than the rest (we all have one!).
2. Think Footwear – and How to Pair It
Your winter boots are perfect for the trek in, but an hour in and your feet are just too warm for your office. Bringing a pair of flats or heels allows for a little more air in the heated office. In this scenario, think about using a slim pant that can be seamlessly tucked into your boots, and still look great with heels after the transition (wrinkle free!).
3. Built in Accessories
A cowl neck sweater is a great choice for the hot / cold transition. Use the cowl as a scarf when you zip up your coat, but during the day, the short sleeves give you some relief in the heated office.
4. Vent It Out
Smartly placed cutouts and cold shoulder details can help regulate your temperature for indoors and out. Whether it’s a sweater, blouse, or dress – get a breath of air with these details.
5. Mix Your Materials
Pair sweater like materials with lighter fabrics for temperature control in one look. Let your top half breathe in a silky top, while using a sweater skirt to keep you cozy.
