At that first hint of a chill in the air, you know it’s time to start layering, and the kimono is an on-trend spin on that cardigan or jean jacket we usually reach for. This item is effortless and cozy, yet elevates any look to a more stylish version. That means that you can dress it down with jeans and tee-shirt like Allison of Curvy Girl Chic (below), or pair it with a black pants and a tank for a going out look. A printed kimono is the natural focus of an outfit —play it simple with solid neutrals underneath. Go for more graphic effect by pulling out the colors of the kimono for the rest of your outfit, like Kelly Augustine (below). Try pairing it with a dress for work or play — you do not have to wear pants with a kimono! And it’s important to find the length that’s right for your body shape. Kimonos can hit anywhere from mid-hip to below the knee, and you should think about the proportion that you feel most comfortable in as you pick one to closet.
