Risky Business feat. Jessica Torres

Every month, we ask one of our Gwynnie Bee members to take a style outside of their style profile for a 24-hour test drive. This month we asked our featured influencer, Jessica Torres, to try something new in one of our favorite neighborhoods.

“I consider my personal style to be a visual representation of my individuality. I’ve always shied away from the classic, girly fit and flare silhouette. I tend to gravitate towards more leather and sheer pieces, and the Canadian Tuxedo (all-denim look) is my go-to. Some of my favorite brands include ASOS, Fashion to Figure, and Eloquii and I’ve grown to really like Carmakoma, City Chic and Universal Standard. Edgier, not-so-standard yet comfortable pieces are what I’d normally reach for, so this Cherry Velvet dress appealed to me because a) it’s retro-inspired, which I don’t usually do and b) it’s a new brand I was introduced to through Gwynnie Bee. I think it’s important to experiment with fashion and try different styles.”

With that experimental style mindset, Jessica was ready to take on her day wearing the Cherry Velvet Daphne Dress in Pin Head Dots

How would you rate the Cherry Velvet Daphne Dress in Pin Head Dots?
“Four hearts. I would have given it a perfect score if it had pockets!”

How did you feel wearing this new style all day?
“When I first tried on the dress I was pleasantly surprised by how flattering it was on my figure. Yet, it felt a bit weird wearing a dress I would never wear out in public. It almost felt like I was wearing a costume! It wasn’t until I started to pair the dress with items that are in my closet (the faux fur that has become my Winter staple!) that it started to feel like me. That’s what style is all about.”

How would you style this piece?
“I would add a fun fur jacket. I like to go all out. I would even wear it with a pair of sneakers or maybe even a denim jacket.”
