Adventures in Style featuring Emily of Something Gold, Something Blue

Every month, we ask one of our Gwynnie Bee members to take a style outside of their wheelhouse for a 24-hour test drive. This month we asked Emily of Something Gold, Something Blue to try something new in her favorite Houston neighborhood. Stepping outside her style profile, see how this fashionista took the Melissa McCarthy Seven7 Tibet Stamp Kimono Maxi Dress for a chic day on the town!

“I chose this dress from Melissa McCarthy’s Seven7 collection because it had more of a bohemian vibe and was subtler in color than I typically go for. I wanted to challenge myself to try something a bit lighter in color and more on the bohemian/beachy vibe. And, I am so glad I did!”

“This dress was perfect for roaming around Houston last weekend. Not only was the fabric light, but it also had an elastic waistband that created a gorgeous empire shape (aka. extremely flattering for those of us with a little bit extra in the stomach area).”

“I typically describe my style as preppy with a southern twist. I’m often reaching for bold colors and patterns to add a bit of flare to my outfits – although I have to tone it down slightly when I go to work. On the weekends, you will often find me in a colorful dress or a-line skirt, paired with a pair of cute flats and a purse large enough to hold all of the essentials.”

“Depending on where you are going, this dress can be styled casually up or glammed up a bit. For a more casual vibe, a pair of slides and a large tassel tote enhances the bohemian vibe of the dress while still being comfortable. To dress it up for a night on the town, a pair of suede, cognac wedges gives a bit of added height while a chic tan clutch holds all of the essentials.”

“Overall, I think the dress speaks for itself, with its statement sleeves and colorful pattern, so it doesn’t need a ton of accessories. For both looks, I think keeping the jewelry simple is a good way to go; a gold bangle and a pair of statement earrings are the quintessential finishing touch.”
