Brand Spotlight on…Modamix

Fashion-forward and print-driven, Modamix has quickly gained a loyal following for its on-trend, contemporary collection. We are such fans of what the two-year-old brand is doing that we had to bring you a look inside the line! Inside the brand’s midtown Manhattan showroom, we got a sneak peek at the Spring 2016 line and just generally had a great time chatting with the team about fashion, the plus community, and where Modamix is headed.

“Our whole thing is ‘Look Good, Feel Good.’ It starts with the fabric and the fit. Once you feel good in the clothes and you look good, that’s all you need to have a good day”, Sales and Marketing Manager Samantha Hilowitz told us. That’s why Creative Director Ellice Janus focuses on performance-based fabrics, like scuba, stretch crepe and ponte, which flatter a woman’s curves and fit fantastically (bonus points for using a size 18 fit model!).

Their attention to fit and fabric made us wonder just what do they enjoy the most about designing for the plus market? The answer was simple, “It’s really well appreciated!” Both Samantha and Ellice glowed about the great response they have gotten from the plus-size community and the connections that they’ve made. And it’s no wonder, with the brand’s philosophy that all women should be able to find pieces that help them feel beautiful and strong for any occasion. The Modamix collections are based on day-to-night transitional looks that could take you from work to happy hour with friends, date night or even out on weekends.

You can build plenty of Modamix pieces into your fall wardrobe, including the black dahlia print skirt (launching soon on Gwynnie Bee). Ellice personally loves the faux shearling vest (far left). She told us, “I think it has a bit of edge, a bit of ’70s nostalgia. It’s a great layering piece that you can throw over anything and you’re good to go. It’s a outfit completer.” You can currently closet the Grommet Stretch Crepe Dress, which is Samantha’s favorite from the fall collection and will be soon launching in a print as well!

Want the inside scoop on the brand’s spring line? We did too! For the February collection, we’ll see a lot of happy vibrant colors that are “sure to get everyone out of their winter blues,” Ellice teases. March is a floral explosion of spring shine and faux suede detailing, with a hint of retro. Ellice pointed to particularly liking the April story, with a mod-inspired black and white color story accented by pops of neon lime and watermelon.
