In case you missed it, our GB Book Club is wrapping up reading “Year of Yes” by Shonda Rhimes with curator Sara Benincasa! Check out her favorite quotes from this selection and be sure to check out the discussion in our GB Book Club Facebook Page.

Hey all!

I hope you’ve enjoyed our time with “Year of Yes” by Shonda Rhimes. If you haven’t finished, do not worry – the goal here is to get you started and continue feeling the encouragement and excitement and inspiration you may glean from her work. Here are a few quotes I dig. I’m not a TV producer, mother, or boss, but man do I relate to some of this stuff. And feel free to add your thoughts and your favorite quotes in the thread below. And we will announce our next book on February 7th so stay tuned miladies!

“I am not lucky. You know what I am? I am smart, I am talented, I take advantage of the opportunities that come my way and I work really, really hard. Don’t call me lucky. Call me a badass.”
― Shonda RhimesYear of Yes: How to Dance It Out, Stand In the Sun and Be Your Own Person

“Don’t let what he wants eclipse what you need. He is very dreamy,” she says. “But he is not the sun. You are.”
― Shonda RhimesYear of Yes: How to Dance It Out, Stand In the Sun and Be Your Own Person

“You can quit a job. I can’t quit being a mother. I’m a mother forever. Mothers are never off the clock, mothers are never on vacation. Being a mother redefines us, reinvents us, destroys and rebuilds us. Being a mother brings us face-to-face with ourselves as children, with our mothers as human beings, with our darkest fears of who we really are. Being a mother requires us to get it together or risk messing up another person forever. Being a mother yanks our hearts out of our bodies and attaches them to our tiny humans and sends them out into the world, forever hostages.”
― Shonda RhimesYear of Yes: How to Dance It Out, Stand In the Sun and Be Your Own Person

Stay tuned for our next book, announcing February 7th!
