Friday has arrived once again – which means, more GB Profiles! Labor day might be around the corner, but we’ve got another holiday on our mind: tomorrow is Women’s Equality Day! I feel incredibly lucky to work in an environment that promotes women’s empowerment as part of our mission both through Gwynnie Bee, the company, and internally in our offices. I was chatting with Emma, the head of our HR team about how I feel that vibe in our offices and she tells me, “We have intentionally built a diverse leadership team and we have created an environment that fosters plurality of thought.” Even though I write daily for my job, I could not have said it better myself.
With that thought in my mind, it’s a great opportunity to reach out to two women who are on our management team, to talk style (as we do every Off-the-Record), but also about their thoughts on women’s equality in the work place and beyond.
Emma: Has a Great New Watch
Emma, our Head of HR is one busy woman, but I catch her often enough to compliment her classic, clean, and put-together style. Particularly her shoes! As if I could pass up an outfit with rose gold loafers, which she calls her own version of “rose-colored glasses”. If you’re ready to go create this look too, you’re in luck, the top is available to closet now – it’s the Alfani Short Sleeve Stripe Button Down. While she likes to go simple on her look, she tells me she’s influenced by both real (Former First Lady, Michelle Obama) and fictional (Claire Underwood, Elizabeth McCord) women in politics , and I see the inspiration. Those women are power dressers, and I’ve seen Emma pull off those sharp, yet feminine looks too. Speaking of powerful women, when we talked tomorrow’s holiday, she tells me, “I am a firm believer that a company is only as good as its people. Our ideas are better and our team is stronger when we include people with diverse life experiences. Women are an important part of this.” Her sentiments live in that polished, yet genuine space, just like her style.
Jessica: Dumpling Crazed
Known for her jackets (oh yes, even in the summer, because she commits to style), I was surprised to find Jessica, our VP Merchandising, simply in a dress and some slides. She tells me it’s her favorite dress, and when it’s your favorite, you don’t cover it up. She typically dresses professionally in the office but taking a note from her style icon, the legendary Audrey Hepburn, she likes to make sure every polished look still has a sense of attitude. Besides her great style, Jessica is a great person to feature today because of her management role in the office, which she takes seriously, “We strive to make GB a place where all employees feel empowered, understand their impact, and have their voices heard. To me, a culture where everyone can succeed is one that promotes equality.” Amen!
We hope you’ve enjoyed this peek inside the GB Hive. Check back here on Fridays to meet a few more of our team members and get to know us on a more personal level – we’re pleased to be formally introduced. If you missed our last edition of GB Off-the-Record, be sure to go read about it here. Happy Friday!
